What ways are there to get better balance when doing side kicks?

Honestly, the best way to learn balance is by doing it. When I was learning how to complete a side heel and thrusts kicks I was awkward at first as well. Just keep drilling it concentrating on the muscles at the end of the foot and how you are making contact. Different styles do it many different ways too. We chamber the leg before most of our kicks to. That helps position for the release

Practicing side kicks. How often have you done the motion of a sidekick before? Probably not often so you need to develop the muscles and get your body used to this motion. This takes times as your body 'grows' into the movements of your martial art. The best thing really is to keep doing them until the body adjusts. It's not an easy kick.
