Tae Kwon Do or Karate?

Usually I'd answer it doesn't matter, since a good school will give you a decent enough work out to burn some calories. But since weight loss is not the priority in most martial arts, you'd probably be better off enrolling in a weight loss program. But on second thought, I've observed most TKD schools these days focus more on sports competitions and have weight classes, so you would probably get more weight loss benefits there since majority of their training focuses on kicking, jumps and spins, which can work your core and cardio real hard. But a good old school Karate teacher could probably also work your body hard during training just as well.

Your age/height/weight don't play any factor in choosing a martial art. Find a good school and show up consistently and you'll do fine.

Well, Shotakan Karate and TKD are similar. Here's what most of us would say, "Find the right instructor."

Here's the problem, both are known to have "McDojos(jangs). Look at karate first, TKD has way too many poor quality schools.

Maybe you can join in Karate. Aside from having learning in defense and combat you will also learn respect, faith and discipline like what stated in dojo kun. And you said your kinda bony it can helo in karate chops.

Look around and see whats in ur area first, then come back and ask us. No use picking what u want to do if its not available.

its all the same

I want to lose some weight and my cousin told me to take TDK or karate. Which one would be better for me? (I'm 5'5", 14 year old girl, weighing around 150 -__- yes ik I'm overweight for my age, I'm also sorta big boned) Tell me the pros and cons of taking TDK or karate with my circumstances.
