Studying and Opponent in Combat Help?!?

If you are training with them you should already know what they are like and what techniques they like to rely on. If you can't then you really need to just sit out of training one day just watch them train or something, because you are so focused on yourself that you are not looking at your opponents.

When fighting a new person you want to try to set the pace and throw attacks and remember how they respond and what they follow it up with. Then you use that knowledge to build up the next attack, and you start mapping out their techniques and traits as you fight.

But essentially you want to look at them and really study them when you are fighting. To do that you need to stop focusing on yourself. To do that you really need to get your techniques down. And to do that you need to practice, practice, and practice.

Well part of your problem is you guys are doing this on your own and so you don't have the benefit of a good coach or instructor standing there and teaching you things and helping you to develop your skill, knowledge, and ability and critiquing things when needed.

There are all sorts of things you would otherwise be made aware of and learning if that was the case. Still you have hit on a few more obvious ones like a person shifting their weight. Along with this the distance at which they are when shifting their weight is important. If further away and they are shifting their weight then its to move in and attack or to kick; closer and its instead to punch probably and that is an example of what I am saying.

Another aspect you look at are what openings are presented for you to attack and take advantage of. Those attacks don't have to just be limited to kicking and punching either and here again this is an area where formal instruction is important and can come in handy.

Also do you telegraph your attacks in some way or do you make good choices or bad ones. Bad ones result in you wasting a lot of energy and attempting to do things but yet not achieving good results while also exposing yourself to your opponent. Here again that's where a good coach or instructor comes in because they will teach you about this and help give you the tools needed to prevent this from happening.

My best advice for you is to seek out formal training. That is the best way to learn some of these things as well as others while also giving you the skill, knowledge, and experience needed. Otherwise it is pretty much hit or miss as to weather or not you will surpass your friends and probably more of a miss really.

different people will tell you different things... one is looking into the eyes or look at there head... the head and eyes will tell when someone is going to strike... looking at their legs or arms you will get hit by either one... you mean you are sparing and training...

You need to know its not just in the mind in the radiun.

So my friend and I are working on our combat skills (not actually fighting just becoming stronger). I wanted to know how you studying an opponent like what hand they use, when they shift there weight, type of person, and type of attack. I'm tired of being the weakest out if my friends. Please help!!!
