Strength vs skill? Who would win in a fight?

Wow! A muscle-bound man who plays D&D? That's as rare as a white buffalo. I give the MMA guy the edge because he should be able to force his unskilled opponent into a submission if his MMA training is worth anything. The MMA of 2014 has come a long way since the Gracie Jiu Jitsu of 1993. Most MMA schools today "should teach" everything the Gracies do, coupled with the best techniques from wrestling, Muay Thai, and boxing. Today's MMA fighter has a lot more tools in his tool box than Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Marco Ruas, or Maurice Smith had in the 1990s, and those guys could "own" most unskilled strongmen long before MMA evolved into what it is today. There is something to be said about skill, and a big, strong man's only hope against a skilled opponent is to score a quick knock out. The longer the fight goes, the more it favors the 135-pound MMA fighter who has mastered the principle of "conservation of energy." At 275 pounds, the larger, unskilled fighter can't conserve jack squat. His heart and lungs have to work incredibly hard to perform the smallest movements. What's worse is that the 275-pounder can expect to gain an average of 1 pound a year until he's 60, if he's lucky enough to live that long. Men that size are in danger of developing hypertension and sleep apnea.

Definitely skill. He might be able to have a couple good punches on you but there is absolutely no way he would win. I mean you have a great advantage. Not only would you have more speed than him but you definitely last much longer than him. Since he's so big, he'd probably run out of oxygen after his 10th swing and he'd probably be exhausted. A lot of muscle requires a lot of oxygen.

The difference is training and conditioning. One person doesn't know of anothers strength and skill and already the little guy has the advantage. But what if the big guy is also a trined skilled fighter? then he will squash the little one no matter what.

Skill almost always wins. But it just takes one lucky hit to win which is why I say almost always. But... Even a guy with skill can lose if he is fettered in his mind about the opponent for any reason one being the other guy being really strong. Every fight should be seen as nothing unusual no matter how big the guy is or even number of opponents. Once your mind gets stuck on "oh no this guy is big" or "what if ..." Even with skill you are half way on your way to losing.

Either person can win. One good lucky shot can end a fight. But in most cases the more skilled person will win. Also 10 years of training is still basically a beginner.

Hahahaha D&D. It really depends on the person. There is a video floating about of a BJJ/MMA practitioner fighting a body builder. Although said MMA guy did win after about 10 minutes, he was countered and reversed by his opponent using brute strength alone. Really does depend on the individual.

Skill I do to-shin do and I take down people twice my size and strength all the time although 1 mistake and the stronger guy could use brute force and take over

Skill 9/10

skills because i have a friend who knows karate and he is little but he can fight well so skill because they can like flip and kick and sneak attack and stuff muscle mass is good but he wont be as fast as a karate fighter.

I think I can safely speak for nearly everyone here when I state how commonly this generic question is being asked:

Do I need to go on?

Let's say you have 2 guys both the same age. One guy is 135 lbs, has been doing mixed martial arts for 10 years and holds several titles in his weight class. You have another guy who is 6'2" and weighs 275 lbs. He is nearly 100% muscle mass. But he has no fighting skills. He works a job that requires alot of heavy lifting. But he doesn't like sports. He has never been in a fight or watched a fight on TV. He just plays D and D and reads books. Who would win in a fight and why?
