Should I learn judo or bjj?

I wouldn't worry about judo vs bjj. I would worry the quality of the school your going to train at. I would say most bjj schools are going to be legit. While most judo schools I have seen were little weak.

I LOVE bjj. But more of that is because I love my gym. If I had a choice, I would rather wrestle or do judo. But there aren't a lot of good options for either in my area.

If you are looking for more selfdeffence go with judo! Bjj does 90% ground work and judo does 50/50 for both stand up game and ground game.

However I would take judo if I where you and wanted the thing you want also (the throws are sick and do really work like 2 weeks ago I was in a wrestling tourny for school and I kicked *** in stand up)

If day judo, because it gives you're martial arts a bit of a twist BJJ is abit rough and street compared to the original Jiu Jitsu

@Abigail i have no idea what you have been smoking, seriously you are being ripped off darling if you have learned this from your MMA class. lol

I would 2nd Keyboard Warriors answer.

I personally think judo. Lots more ground fighting!

I take kenpo karate and would like to start training in another martial art next Winter as a supplement. I like to take the winters off from organized sports and train, but I naturally like to have more structure when I do this and I wasn't very productive last winter. Because of this, I think I would benefit from starting lessons at another school as well. The judo place is really cheap (25-45 dollar a month) and pretty close. The only review of it online is positive.

I'm naturally more of a grappler than a striker, and I used to take folk style wrestling and enjoyed it, however I would like to try something new that includes submissions. I would like to learn this for self defense; I have no interest in competing in MMA or anything like that. I know I enjoy grappling on the ground, but wrestling only had takedowns, and no throws. Basically I want to know:

1) How much do you get to do ground fighting in judo?

2) How much throwing do you learn in bjj?

3) Which one mixes them more equally?

4) and.... Which is better (in your opinion) for self defense?

I am a teenager and I'm in fairly good shape although I'm not very flexible (hence, I am putting off further grappling training until I can work on my kicking).
