Self defense classes?

Look for a good teacher not a style. If you want to learn self defense look for a school that is teaching self defense. So far you have chose 2 sports instead of self defense arts.

Both of those are good and can be used in self defense. but they lack many things taught in a class that teaches self defense.

Ok this is what i can give you C:

Karate:

Karate is a striking art using punching, kicking, knee strikes, elbow strikes and open hand techniques such as knife-hands, spear-hands, and palm-heel strikes. In some styles, grappling, throws, joint locks, restraints, and vital point strikes are also taught.

Taekwondo:

It combines combat and self-defense techniques with sport and exercise. This is actually both combat and self defence.

Judo:

Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke. Strikes and thrusts by hands and feet as well as weapons defenses are a part of judo, but only in pre-arranged forms. Judo is actually about pinning your foes down to stop them. SO basically this is self defence 100%!

To my own opinion Karate and Taekwondo is best, its like 50% Attacking, 50% Self Defence. SO yeah karate would be the best for you.

So, it depends on how long you wanna learn them C;

1. Real self-defense is about IMPROVISATION, SURVIVAL and ESCAPE and not

fancy acrobatic dueling or sport fighting in the Ring.

2. Real self-defense recognizes that trying to grapple or otherwise CONTROL the

enemy exposes you to more danger each additional second you're connected to

him.

3. Real self-defense requires training to deal with the reality of MULTIPLE

ASSAILANTS--because if you're focused on grappling on the ground with only one

attacker, his buddies will have an easier time kicking your head in.

4. Real self-defense should work even if you're NOT an Olympic athlete.

5. Real violence is ugly, unpredictable and CHAOTIC by nature. Your attacker obeys

no rules and neither should you.

This being said, it is highly important you find a legit self defense class with a respected teacher. Not the average (women's self defense) etc. IDK how many ridiculous self defense schools I have come across.

Fighting is violent. Defending yourself against a RANDOM unknown assailant who wants to do you or a loved one serious harm or worse kill you, you must improvise, survive, and escape, or you must be able to meet that type of violence head on, and respond with better violence.

Jiu Jitsu would be more effective in my opinion. BJJ wouldn't be as effective as regular JJ since you fight on the ground a lot.

Here is a good course you can follow if you want to learn some self defence tecniques to protect yourself and your family http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=563...

Ok so I'm not sure why but for some reson everyone at school is getting into fights they happen every day. I want to be prepared, I don't want to be the attacker but if attacked I want to be able to defend myself. What classes should I take? So far there are three that stick out, brazillian ju jitsu and boxing, what should I do? I'm open to anything
