Jujitsu it's not brazilian ,It's a extension of judo or combat art .It's wise wresting with opponent that it use weak section of the balancing to drop down with less amount of the weight and force .
During wrestling ear getting break under the pressure of fight and are look like chewed piece of meat .which it hurt badly till while and may cause opponent to loose the fight ,so most the fighters break their ear before till during fight they do not feel pain in that section .
It's a choice in most gyms. Where I practiced before, wrestling headgear was available if someone wanted to wear it, but it was never a requirement. Gi or No-Gi. Who cares what people think? Train, have a good time, and learn.

In Brazilian jujitsu should I wear an earguard to stop my ears from looking like chewed bubble gum and if I wear an ear guard will people laugh at me ?
