Question about martial arts ?

There shouldn't be any problem with you learning martial arts. But the best thing to do is to talk to your doctors first. This is something that all people should do even though most don't. Then if the doctor says you are fine for this type of physical activities you should search for a good instructor. After you find the the best instructor that you can you should let them know of your concerns.

Find a school you are interested in then talk to the instructor. Explain what you have told us and see what his guidelines are regarding students in cancer recovery. We had a student at our school who had a traumatic brain injury and had a surgical plastic plate in his skull. We were all aware of it, and we did our best to limit direct contact with his head during training. This limited some of the training he could receive, and the intensity of that training, but he deserved to have the best opportunity at martial arts training he could get... so we provided it.

I don't think your instructor would have a problem as long as your physician will clear you for the type of training you want, and will present any limitations that might be required based on your condition, level of recovery, etc..

That is definitely something you need to see your doctor about. He can tell you if there will be limitations and what they are. Then if he says it is OK you can start looking into what style you would like to do. Most styles can be adapted to any limitations if you have any. Just make sure you let your martial arts teacher know. If your doctor clears you without limitations go and have fun. No reason why you couldn't.

1st talk to your Doctor to confirm his opinion. There are some forms of Okinawan Karate which avoid contact and prefer to practice only disabling strikes. If you have to be careful to avoid head injury you might want to look around for one of these schools

Of course you should. Check out Koyokushin, it would complement your kickboxing background very well and teach you the proper technique.

Take Krav Maga

I am 16 and want to participate in martial arts. I used to be in kick boxing when I was in the fourth grade but stopped due to the price. The thing is I had a brain tumor when I was twelve and it was removed and it was cancerous, so I had brain cancer for a year. So I was wondering if I should try tho participate in karate or if I should avoid it. Sorry if it is in the wrong category
