Preventing shin splints in muay thai?

Stay on your toes. and stretch. Shin splints are from an overworked muscle. it usually happens with that muscle isn't used to what your doing. I was a sprinter and this happens a lot to heel toe running types.

Nothing heels shin splints other than time. You cannot push through the pain. You need to manage the injury like it is a serious injury.

If it is hurting to kick the bag then that means there is some damage to the bone or the fibre attachment points, which is common for unhealed shin splints. They will just continue to get worse until you end up with crutches and plaster (happened to my sister)

Get the gym to put a stop on the payments for a month while you recover. Then for a few days do absolutely nothing. Then for a week spend time running in a pool. while in the pool spend time running on you toes as well. You can also work on your kicks and drills in the pool.

Then for the next week combine the pool training with walking and jogging, but take it very easy, wear good shoes, dont run down hills they make the injury worse. try and keep it on steady ground. then in the final week practice training at home without the bag, do not over do it or you will find yourself back to square one.

When you come back to training just take it easy for a few weeks and make it a slight building process back to training. easy on the skipping and such things. Striking the bag will not give you shin splints. If the pain you are feeling was created from kicking the bag then that means you have tissue damage and or stress fractures to the shin.

hey,

I was wondering if anyone has been here before:

I started muay thai a few months ago, and now that I have proper kicking form, I keep getting shin splints on the medial side of my tibia. i havent been practicing muay thai long, and it takes weeks for these splints to heal. I have to keep taking week-long breaks from class to let them heal. I'm on my 3rd in my left leg (southpaw) and i've had 2 in my right.

my gym costs 125/month and I dont want to be paying for nothing. how can I prevent these splints from forming? do I have to condition my shins every night? after a little self diagnosis, the splint is coming from my soleus muscle.

I've read to start using compression sleeves as well, but if the muscle or bone is weak, i'd just like to know where to start. no one else at my gym seems to have this problem

Thank you for your time
