Need help choosing a punching bag.?

Well I don't know of any bag that will stand up to you whacking away or stabbing it with a bladed weapon; even a dull one. So forget that with any bag you buy-even leather or ballistic nylon ones with 3/8" thick nylon. You might consider the web site below and they currently have the Title MMA Thai heavy bag on sale for $149.00. That's a pretty decent bag for the money but also note that its a 100 lbs so you can't just hang this without taking some care and setting it up right. A 100 lb bag swinging and swaying around will warp most floor joists or ceiling joists and cause major damage to a house or apartment. You will have to also cross-brace the adjoining joists or better yet hang it from the central steal beam in your house if you have one. The height also becomes a problem because then you better have at least an eight foot ceiling that you are hanging it from since bags like this are usually six feet long and that's not counting the chain it hangs from.

You mean you are going to hit a punching bag with a katana? Are you serious? Katana are not for hitting, they cut. Even if it is a blunt katana you should practice correct slicing motions and precision targets on a body/partner with a bokken. Punching bags are not made for that.

So for my birthday this year I was thinking of getting a punching bag.

I do MMA as well as wrestling and have a history in Isshin-ryū. I have a pretty good punch but I am better known for my kicks so I know I want a hanging long bag, however I do not know which weight I will need. I am about 145(ish) and 5'1. Also, any help with brands and fills. I would love to have a water-filled bag but I want to practice with my blunt edged katana and I feel I would break it. I was thinking of getting an Ever Last.

Thank you so much for your help!
