My parents don't wont my to take mma classes...?

Tell her that. Tell her that you understand the difference between self-defense and starting a fight. I've been in karate & MMA classes and both had explained up-front what your intention of learning the activity should be, and that is exactly what you claim you want to learn it for.

Remind her about how good with people you've been in the past; remind her how you don't generally start fights. Tell her that you believe you deserve to know how to defend yourself in a possibly deadly situation, and tell her that it's very likely you'll learn more good than bad in MMA classes.

Oh, you could also tell her that a lot of MMA academies won't accept people that seem as if the only reason they want to learn is to learn how to fight - therefore you won't be around people with the wrong intentions, and that because of this, you have a lesser chance of someone giving you such an idea.

I hope I helped, or sparked an idea. I hope you get into your MMA classes, it has personally helped me a good bit.

She is probably okay with you learning tae kwon do, or hapkido or something among those lines.

But just let her know that MMA is exactly that, but only mixed with grappling and what not.

So by you taking MMA classes, not only are you learning one thing, but you're learning quiet a few things.

I'm not saying MMA is tae, or hapkido, but i mean, the kicks, the strikes...you see all of that in those types of martial arts.

I started with taekwondo, then hapkido. and when i got into MMA, i already knew striking, and the trainers saw that, so they focused on teaching me grappling.

i suggest you start with MMA just to get started with it all together, no?

anyways, good luck with that, hope i helped.

I'm almost sixteen and ive been looking into mma classes recently. I have decent grades and im great with everyone I meet (I don't try to start fights). My mother wants me to take a self defense class instead because she thinks i will become violent. I want to take this mma class to learn discipline, protect myself and the weak, and get in shape, not to start fights and hurt people. How can I convince my mother? Thanks for reading.
