Lead with whatever the opportunity calls for... You can lead with a quick lead hook. Jab or a stronger straight left(straight right for southpaw) is the most basic thing to lead with but leading with a quick cross could be used especially if using a cross-hook combination. Any kick can be used as a lead weapon as well. If the opponent is dazed and you are trying to go for knockout then in this case you can even lead with a nasty power shot if you want (which leading with something like this can get you in trouble so use only when you know it'll work). For takedowns it might be better to throw a punch or two before going for takedown but sometimes you can just go right for the takedown.
