Karate style used in Ip Man movie?

Going by the time period of the movie and the fact that Karate only really made it to the Japanese in the 1920s and 30s I'd put my money on Shotokan.

The bounce is not a style related thing, it's a habit formed because of the sparring rules favoured by schools.

Bouncing usually comes from a preference to non-continuous point based rules.

The strength in bouncing is being light on your feet and already being in motion when you need to move, just putting more propulsion into the kick-off is usually enough to carry a person away from an incoming opponent and screw with their timing, such movement also provides an opening for a counter-attack which usually ends in match stoppage.

In a continuous match the bounce is less common because its weaknesses outweigh it's strengths. Because you're not well grounded when you bounce power has to be generated by core-strength alone and that makes it very hard to effectively counter attack in a way that will actually stop an attacker. Also not being grounded means you're easier to sweep and easier to throw from a clinch.

It is Wing Chun. Ip Man was Bruce Lee's instructor in China when Bruce was a teen. And the general was not fighting three "Masters", they were merely students of other Masters in the movie. And while the movie may not have been "historically" accurate, the legend and legacy of Ip Man was depicted accurately. A great many martial arts movies are based on the legends of Martial Artists that the Chinese people consider Heroes for their actions against corrupt rulers and the tyranny of the British. Because of their stances they are legends.

Ok Yip man was a real person but the movie is not true.. But it is karate the Japanese would use ..Shotokan is form of karate. Karate comes from Chinese martial arts formed after White Crane Kung Fu..Yip man formed his own style of Wing Chun. Yip man did fight a Japanese officer but beat him easily. He became police officer at the age of 24. But his form comes his teacher Leung Bik who beat him in a fight

Ok, if you've seen the movie Ip Man then you probably remember the style of karate the Japanese General used in two fights. The first time he displays his karate was against 3 Kung fu masters in his dojo. The second was when he fought Ip Man in his final fight. I don't think the movie was historically accurate. But still a fun movie to watch. Anyways, I've seen free sparing in Shotokan karate and they seem to bounce around a lot. To where the style of karate in used in Ip Man didn't have that bouncing around movement. I'm not bashing any martial arts or styles. But I want to know what style the Japanese General was using? If anyone who has knowledge of this can answer please.
