Ju-Jitsu for children?

Not if you are not qualified to be teaching him, Instructors learn to deal with children in a manner which best explains the application to a childs mind. You will not have this so all you will be doing is teaching him how to hurt someone and giving him the tools to end up expelled from school. This is why you need to be a certain level to be teaching people in ALL martial arts because one of the skills is to be able to relay that message to a young mind.

Letting him go and train with an instructor who is qualified is a wonderful idea, and it will not hurt his football. I would definately limit what you personally teach him though, because it needs to fit in with curriculum because it is based solely on skill level and ages

It is a good idea...

Hi,

I'm going to be going home for a few weeks and I currently practice Judo myself - however as there isn't a club back home I'm taking up Ju-Jitsu as well for the holiday times, if i like it I'm going to be attending during the uni year too...Anyway - my question was is Ju-Jitsu suitable for a nine year old boy?

My little cousin has expressed an interest when I first began training and wished to do a Martial art, so should I take him with me to Ju-Jitsu? His parents don't practice but have agreed if he likes it they will continue taking him if I take him to the first few sessions while i'm home,

By the way the nine year old lad also plays on a Junior football team, will they clash or go well together?

Thanks!
