Is martial arts weapon sparring dangerous?

This may be OK training for sticks or a shinai and even then you wear padding but not for bokken. You don't hit with swords. You cut with them. Bokken are meant to represent swords. So this does not sound really good to me and more like they have no clue what they are doing.

Weapons sparring is not dangerous but you got to know what you are doing and take safety precautions. You guys don't take safety precautions.

you dont spar with bokkens like that you use shinai, bokkens can and do break bones, they are lucky they only have a few bruises so far

I am joining up a dojo to train martial arts, they also have a weapons course in which you learn to use a wooden bokkan, and end up going into matches with only your clothes and a helmet.

They use a strong but controlled force to overcome your opponent's defences and strike each other, but holding back on your force so you're not going flat out.

A friend of mine did this, and told me in each session she may have had 20-30 direct blows to her body with the wooden bokkan she came out with only bruises and nothing serious, although on the other hand I have heard stories of people being injured by this, is it as safe as my friend said or are there dangers to contact bokkan sparring?
