For most people it seems not to matter and I will explain that answer. A number of years ago the DOJ did a study about street crime, robbery, and assaults in this country. In about half of those crimes where a weapon was involved and the victim was hurt it did not make a difference if the person resisted or not; they still received some kind of injury at the hands of the perpetrator. It did not matter that they cooperated. That study was done back in the early to mid 80's and our society has become more violent prone and criminals along with that since then I think.

That being said your health and life is not worth your worldly goods when it comes down to it and so from that standpoint it does not make sense that you resist. However given the fact that resisting or not resisting does not make a difference about half the time it then becomes something that is on the table and should be considered I think in some cases. This situation that you describe though is hardly an ideal one in any way and so that is why awareness and avoidance are really your first and best line of defense. Sometimes though that is not enough and every situation and the people involved are different and any situation involving physical confrontation needs to be carefully considered and the factors weighed out.

If you know you can fight then I'd say go for it. After all,they deserve it if their trying to rob you. They normally go for people who look vulnerable and like they don't know how to defend themselves so the robber isn't expecting you to fight back. Despite the fact your the one being robbed you have the surprise factor on him if you fight back.

I would always fight back for these four reasons: I believe I have enough martial arts training to prevent a low life robber,I carry weapons on my person, I carry money on me (and unlike some,I NEED every dime I earn,sad but true) and lastly: I've never been one to take $hit lying down. If I don't at least try to defend myself the robber will never learn his lesson and continue to victimize people.

C) Fighting people doesn't make you macho. It only affects your pride.

If all someone is after is property, give it to them. If they lay hands on you, or try to take you to a second location, fight for your life.
