I plan to learn Japanese jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jitsu soon. Any advice?

japanese jujjutsu is a fine martial art for self defense, there are over 600 styles of japanese jujitsu, they all vary in there tactics and techniques. i know sever law enforcement personnel that have successful used their art on the job. contrary to what some people believe in there fantasy world there is nothing wrong with the style. it all depends on the instructor and how they teach

Yes, Jiu-Jitsu is good for self defense. Don't listen to anybody that says Jiu-Jitsu is just a sport. I guarantee you that they've never been in a Jiu-Jitsu school before. Within the first week of my Jiu-Jitsu training I was learning to get off my back and back to my feet. During warm ups, we practice backward break falls followed by standing up a proper way while defending against strikes at the same time. Jiu-Jitsu will teach you how to escape a fight even if you're on the ground or how to finish the fight there if you need to as well. Even a sport focused school will still teach you how to get back to your feet. Why? BECAUSE THAT'S STILL USEFUL IN THE SPORT! If you're on the bottom of a side mount, wouldn't you like to know how to get out and back to your feet? Of course you would, and nobody practices that more than a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner.

the Japanese Ju-Jitsu should help you, but teh Brazilian Jiu-jitsu isn;t really suited to sefl defence, it;s a sport.

In self defence if you end up on the ground the skills you need are to know how to get back to your feet as quickly as possible, BJJ won't teach you that, it will teach you to roll around on the floor looking for a joint lock.

That's great in the ring, but try that in the street and while your tearing some guy an new a-hole his mates will be using your head as a football.

yup dude its going to help you a lot man take the class but use it wisely

you need sparring. but also experience in dealing with people

bjj is more of a sport. in a real fight u shouldnt get into ground

...Pay attention in class?
