Is Calling The Police a Martial Arts tecnique?

Oh I hate Kick Boggers over the iger net.

While it may not be a martial arts technique it is highly advisable for legal reasons. If you have time, call the police before a fight starts and then defend yourself if you need to. If you get ambushed you should be polite and at least tell the cops after the fight where they can pick up the body and get the poor guy some medical attention before they arrest him for assault. If someone messes with you, you got to go all out and make him sorry for attacking you in the first place. For me, he'll get more than just a beating. I'll make sure he'll think twice before he does this to someone else. ...and why not call the police if you got nothing to hide?

Yes, that is something I have been taught in my karate classes. The idea is being aware and to call the police before a situation is at the point where you need to defend yourself. Aka call the police when you see someone in your backyard before they try and kick in your back door. If you think someone is following you get the police involved BEFORE they make contact with you. Thing is you have to be aware of your surroundings which is useful for self defense.

I don't know about you but I do not want to fight unless it is totally unavoidable (and my life is in danger) and I would rather try and take steps so that I don't have to fight. Not because I doubt my skills but fights are scary as sh*t, exhausting, and normally require both parties needing some sort of medical attention, and often the police will end up being involved at some point and it is just not worth it to me.

Though calling the police is not unique to any martial art :)

While it is a valuable part of self defense strategy I wouldn't classify it under technique. It is self defense strategy like avoiding bad places, being aware of your surroundings, and etc. in that it's something that can keep you safe overall. A self defense technique however should be able to keep you safe at the immediate moment from a violent threat. If the strategy has failed to keep you safe then you fall back to techniques to keep your body from harm. Calling the police wouldn't be able to keep you safe immediately due to the time it takes for an officer to get to your location, and thus it wouldn't classify as technique.

With that said there has been reports where victims of an incident(not necessarily human violence) couldn't dial 911 because the adrenalin has taken away motor and mental functions to be able to operate the phone and dial a three digit number. So a little practice and keeping a speed dial number for 911 may be able to help you out.

There is no point calling "The Police", as The Police were a rock band that spilt up in 1986. Did you mean calling "the police"?

Martial means war like, derived from Mars the God of war. It therefore refers to technique which have been derived fro war/the battlefield. Karate for instance is not a "martial" art as it was developed as a civilian self defence, it was not devised for use on the battle field..

As calling the police is useless on a battlefield, it is in no way "martial".

I would think not.

It's a step towards prevention of possible danger but it's not a martial arts technique in itself I would think.

Yes; but of limited value if someone is swinging a pool cue at you. If an assault is not aimed at you, a loved one or your property; calling police is a valid option. Remember that martial arts encompasses the entire warrior mentality, not just unarmed combat.

No. Civilians call the police when a crime is committed or when they are in trouble. People who practice martial arts defend themselves instead of calling the police.

Yes, it's called Chicken S#$%.

Haha, it's the best way to defend yourself.

I wouldn't call it a technique, so no.

judo

it is not.

its common sense.
