Is BJJ good?

Absolutely without a doubt! I use to train boxing and had the same thinking like you, I thought that BJJ was a reason for gay guys to hug other gay guys. But I tried it anyways to see what the hype was all about, when Royce Gracie was dominating in the martial arts world when UFC first started.

So what happened the first day I trained is I got my *** handed to me, even from the smallest guy in the gym (my gym teaches boxing, muay thai, wrestling, and shooto). So I kept on coming back hoping I'll get my revenge, but don't think that day every came till 2 years later which was the same year I got my blue belt.

You make friends along the way and teaches you a lot of life lessons which makes you a better person. But more importantly Jiu-jitsu relies more on technique rather than strength, which is good for small guys like me. Now I've been in a lot of fights in my younger days, so I can say that BJJ is probably the best martial arts on a one on one situation without hurting your opponent too much, just immobilising them. But in a group situation you wouldn't want to fight them all at the same time anyways unless Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee. So the best thing to do is run away, but if you got no choice then break one of their legs and run away, but if someone grabs you then just break their arm and make a run for it again. In my opinion I'd rather break an arm or choke someone out then break someone's face which can coz brain injury, and plus it'll just make them more angrier. Also with BJJ you get taught how to throw people just like Judo, so that means in a street fight you can use their collar, shirt, jacket, jumper or anything you can grab onto and use that to throw them.

My advice in the end, is just to try it and see if you like it.

Wow that gay comment comes up an awful lot. If you are that insecure in your sexuality then you have bigger problems than learning BJJ.

Yes BJJ is a wonderful art and a great work out. However, BJJ is plagued with sports training now. So many people are learning BJJ and learning how to grapple against other grappling opponents and you are not going to get grappling opponents in a street fight or a self defense situation. BJJ took away they traditional self defense applications of GJJ which was originally set in the curriculum. This has drastically weakened BJJ from the original format.

Can they defend themselves? absolutely

Are they well skilled? absolutely

but the problem is that without the rest of the curriculum then it is just a sport and that is where the problem falls. If you want it for a sport with a little self defense skill then its great but if you want it more for a self defense format then you need the original curriculum from GJJ so find a quality GJJ academy or a BJJ school which focuses more on self defense than competing to win titles. The more trophies you see does not reflect a good school.

I think against someone who doesn't also train in ground fighting bjj is rediculously effective. With that said it has a great weakness against multiple opponents and weapons. I like to think of bjj as an awesome secondardy martial art, but it wouldn't be my first go to tactic.

Only if you drink green tea.

Is it good? Not really. Is it fun? hell yeah!

yes it is!

i am very interested in brazilian jiu jitsu but is it worth it? can you use it if someone is going to kill you? im also worried that it may be a gay sport and people will think im homo even thought im not. is it healthy? is it good work out?
