Typical day starts off with warm ups, then your coach will show a technique, and you'll work on that technique with a partner. Then at the end of class you'll do some live sparring with your partner. For you since you're new, they probably won't let you. And even if they do, it's not a requirement.
The best thing to do in your situation is to relax, the information you have heard about an MMA gym isn't necessarily true, it really depends on the gym you attend.
Additionally when first starting an MMA class you will be given an insight to what you will be training, this will consist of a warm up and then getting to grips with the basic techniques.
