I can't kip up?

I can do a "kip up", but I have always had to place my hands back over my shoulders and push as I thrust my legs up to clear the floor. I have never been able to do it without them.

And it can be beneficial in Martial Arts to be able to immediately pop back up to your feet if you get knocked down. There are other ways to get up that are just as efficient, and actually provide better base and cover options, but it can be influential against your opponent if you just bounce back up and appear as if what they did had no affect on you.

I have never tried to do it in a fight, I have always chosen one of the other methods, but I have used it when sparring. It did cause my opponent to hesitate which allowed me to get a good front kick in to finish the match. I think that is the more applicable environment for that particular move.

Took a few months for me to learn. Practice on a soft surface so that you don't get repeated head trauma. For me, I was able to get it after kicking my legs out forward at a 45 degree angle rather than straight up.

There are kids that are seven years old that can do this, so you're never too young.

Neither can I. But then I never tried to learn it and it has absolutely nothing to do with martial arts.

...

It requires a lot of core strength to do.

When I tray to kip up (kick up) I can't get my upper body up I can only get my waist and down up and my head just flicks forward I'm kind of young so not sure if I'm too young to do it.
