How will Muay Thai affect my body?

Muay thai will definately help with losing excess weight. It is a great cardio exercise and you will be exhausted for the first few months you go. Slow and steady though and you will be improving, sometimes with martial arts you feel like you are not improving but we can all see it and this is when you move up a rank. So basically just because you feel you are not progressing trust me you are.

I have always been very sports minded and represented Nationals and won junior world titles in other sports other than martial arts (plus trained martial arts) so fitness was something i didnt need to worry about when i begin doing Muay Thai. I have over the years seen many people join and lose a ton of weight. it really does slim you down.

Just remember that while it is a cardio work out and you are trying to lose weight there is nothing better then adding some light weight training. The bigger the muscles are the more energy you burn so keep going the way you're going and you will be fine.

I did rely on Muay Thai and other training regimes to help me lose the weight after both of my pregnancies and i lost all the weight and began to gain muscle tone back within 10 weeks of the birth of my twins. So yes it does definately help

Muay Thai will give you a workout you've never experienced, you WILL get hit, hard, square in the face during training and yes, it will help you get in better shape.

P.S. from the tone of your post, I doubt your will enjoy the training.

I'm a female, 16 years old, 5"4 and weight about 60kg (132 pounds). I'm starting Muay Thai (kickboxing) in a couple of weeks, just because it looks really fun and I wanted a break from dance :P I've decided on Muay Thai, one, because martial arts is something I've also wanted to do and two, I really want to obtain this rocking body I've been dreaming of :P I have already got my diet good. I cut out all junk foods, everything is low-fat, lots of lean meat, drinking two 1 litre bottles a day and lots of fruit and veggies. Now I'm working on the exercise part. I know that kickboxing will do the trick when it comes to fat loss, it's a very high intensity work out. I have two questions.

- Will it help me shed leg fat? I actually have quite a slim torso for my weight but my legs are where all the fat is. Thighs are extremely fatty and jiggly, both inner and outer parts. Always thought I had hips but just realised they were saddlebags :') Another super annoying fatty part is on the inner parts of my knees. It's just little pockets of fat sitting on the inside of my knees which give it a very bulky and knock-kneed affect. So will all this cardio help with these leg fat problems do you think?

- I'm all about losing the weight, but who wants to be skin and bones? Not me >:) So now for the muscle. Where are areas I will build muscle? The main parts I want to build is the inner calf, the thighs (obviously not bulky muscle, just want to replace the jiggly fatty stuff with firm, shapely muscle haha :P) and also glutes because who doesn't want a nice, firm, lifted bum ;) I'm just wondering if kickboxing will help assist with these things, I have no problem in doing workouts in the gym for them.

- And just on a side-note, if you have done Muay Thai or just kickboxing in general, could you tell me about all the changes you noticed? Yes changes in the body (details please!) but also your strength and stamina and just overall fitness :) Just like hearing people's stories

Sorry it's so long but I like to be specific :P Thankyou!
