How to yell louder in taekwondo?

I take taekwondo, and I want to be able to yell louder. NOT scream, just have a louder voice.

its not a yell, and has nothing to do with your voice, it comes from your abdomen not your larynx,

if you are yelling then you are doing it wrong. if you are using your larynx you are doing it wrong., it is a guttural sound.

a kiai should not give me a headache if it does you are doing it wrong and i will deduct points for it.

In Karate this is called Kiai and it is not a yell or a scream. Anybody who knows martial arts can tell the difference between simply yelling and a kiai. There is nothing worse than a wuzzy technique accompanied by a very loud yell. Your sound first of all has to match your technique. Try breathing out when doing your techniques where your kiai goes. If your technique is strong and you imagine the intend and your intend is strong it will generate a sound deep inside you in your navel area rather than a yell which is generated in the throat. It is a release of your energy. Study other sports. It is not just martial arts that uses this technique. You will find it in baseball when hitting the ball, track disciplines, etc.

Well In tournaments Yelling would give you more points also masters do like it when the person shows more enthusiasm with yelling. Just always talk loud (make sure its indoor.lol), try not to be shy. Taekwando made me less shy when I took it, it helped me be more assertive, and gave me confidence. So when ever you Kiup, make sure your Grand master whoever is training hears it, and mostly it comes from the core (abs), so your voice comes out louder, just workout more from the delivery as well. For example before break a board, (AY HAHAHAHAH!).lol. Also its your Kiup accent, do you (AY UUUU, or I used to hear people kiup with EUUUUUU, so until you find your kiup tone you will be better. Good luck

A kiai is suppose to be used to help you release energy. It's not a contest to see who can be the loudest.

Granted some of us are naturally loud, and some aren't.

Unless you're doing it to show off (and IMHO that's a horrible reason), then work on generating power in your techniques and let your kiai be a natural volume for the intensity.

I find it offensive that you get points for being able to yell loud. So does that mean you can win a fight just by yelling? LOL

also what about deaf people and mute people? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA how ridiculous.

Go to a real tkd class the one I go to sometimes but am to scared to spar at has people only really yelling when something goes snap, crackle or pop.

Support from your diaphragm. :) that is what my Grandmaster always tells us use your diaphragm, breathe deep and push with your stomach muscles as you say "ki-up"
