How to start learning chi?

I disagree with Mark.

There are many opinions and thoughts about what chi is and how to use it.

My own view is that there is energy in everything. And Chi is a form of energy. How you manage it, how you use it, and how you control is are all part of the study of it.

I suggest you start by reading all you can on the subject, then talk to as many folks as you can. You'll get all sorts of answers from "Masters" to those like Mark. In time you'll figure out what you think is right and if you want to study further and if so how and with whom.

Terrance Dunn is a Master (he is also a graduate of Harvard University). He has several good DVDs. This one is on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Tai-Chi-Health-Sho...

He also has "Five Standing Meditations" on Amazon, which I haven't watched, but I do have the other DVD and it was very good.

I'm not sure how to contact him, but if you can, he can recommend a Master in your area. I'd learn the basics from a DVD to start. You can stop it and restart as you like.

Sorry... You can study all the charlatans and deluded persons that you wish, but "chi" does not exist. It has never been observed or measured, and none of the structures that are part of traditional Asian medicine (meridians and such) have ever been observed either.

It's folklore.

The "demonstrations" that purport to show "chi" in action are stunts. Lies. Tricks.

You can read about it, but as you said - you need a qualified teacher.

Authors like Daniel Reid, Mantak Chia - You can learn about it with their books and you will also realize why you need a teacher.

You could start by looking into Qigong, the Dao-in, as well as Traditional Chinese Medicine.
