How to learn Kenjutsu?

There are many many many many styles.

Technically Kendo and Iaido are specific kenjutsu styles with proper names.(Though they slip my mind at the moment.)

So do you just want to learn a "Kenjutsu Style" or do you want to learn something with a long history? This is the real question.

Kendo is your gateway drug into the sword arts. That's how I'll answer.

You need an instructor for any type of swordsmanship.

Ay, you can learn the cuts, the blocks, the stances, etc... but a swordsman MUST be able to put such things into practice. You can't do that by yourself.

Kenjutsu is very complex and anal in their details, even more than many other martial arts styles, which makes sense considering you have a very long and sharp weapon and any minor mistake will take off parts of your body. Even unsheathing a sword improperly will result in nasty cuts if you are lucky or losing a finger if it isn't your day.

Sorry to say, but you would need an instructor.

No there isn't. You need to stop asking the question "What do I want to train?" and ask the question "What is available in my area and what is off high quality?". You'll see it gets easier after that.

So take up kendo or iado. You have to learn to walk before you can run.

As others said. Kendo or iaido.

You are only as good as your instructor. If you have no instructor your going to suck

From what I've seen there aren't any dojos or schools that I could go to relatively close to where I live, so I was wondering if there was a way to learn Kenjutsu without one. I know that I won't be able to master it without a teacher, but I would like to learn the basics.
