How to become more flexible?

I want to be able to perform a hook kick, and get all my other kicks higher.and more flexible. What should I do. And how long will it take me?

If you learn a Bolley kick then you might have to get a presidential lethal license for deadly authorized feet and the thing is becareful what you wish for.

Stretching is the answer for flexibility.

Stretch whenever you have free time in the day. I suck at following specific stretching routines because I might not always be feeling like sitting down for a half hour at 3:00 in the afternoon. Make it a constant habit, and eventually you will get somewhere.

For hook kicks, practice your middle and front splits. (Front for the hamstrings in the balancing leg, and middle for the leg that's kicking.) Do a 5 - 10 minute leg warmup (jogging, running in place, anything) to get your muscles looser. Don't overstretch to the point where your muscles feel as if they are being cut in half with a knife. Injury takes a while to recover, and it will stay with you for a while if you're not careful.

Some days you might just feel really tight in the legs. I usually avoid stretching on those days especially if it's a cold day. But the next day, you come back and hit it hard.

And remember, don't expect to get really flexible overnight. It can take years depending on the person, but you will get there eventually if you keep practicing. It took me about 2 months to get my hook kicks to head level.

as George said stretching .. most martial artist try to at least stretch everyday.. it helps keep the muscles and tendons stretch out for easy flexibility.. learn it lower first any way so you can learn to put power in the kick.. I see to many times people kicking higher then they can kick with no power or they are off balance.. just because you are flexible doesn't mean you can kick high with power or force behind the move you want to do.. it takes practice, to do any kick right..

One of the factors that will be really helpful, is to exercise and stretch every single day.

Not just three days a week. As usually is advised.

But you need to be really careful that you don't risk the pull or tear of any muscles.

Cause once an accident with joints, tendons or bones occurs. Those injuries will always stay very sensitive.

Maybe go to a local gym or fitness centre. They might be able to give you much more advice about something like this.

All the best, and take care!
