How should I go about learning a Kip-up?

A kip-up can be done three different ways. First, without hands, pushing back with the head only, second, with the hands only, and lastly with a combination of pushing with the head plus the hands. If you push with your head and hands at the same time, you should get better results.

I don't think there is any need for a kip-up in martial arts.

How I learned is by trying over and over. When I first did it as a kid I would push off and then land on my back, kept doing it and I was on my butt, kept doing it and then I was landing barely on my feet but still falling backward with my arms trying to flap to get me forward, eventually I was able to land all the way up without fear of failing the attempt. You asked what you need? You just need more practice, that's all.

You can see it step by step on youtube, I didn't have that when I was a kid. Here's a link to one.

you need a powerful back, and flexibility, and explosive agility. try first with the back and the stretch when the legs come over your chest, and increase the speed to get momentum with the push. your back doesn't need be flat at the up part it should (lower spine) roll up with you, and the reverse when your feet get under you.

I already know I'm in the cognitive stage of executing this skill. I want I be able to lie flat in my spine and jump up on to my feet, like martial arts can. I'm prettty good at push-ups as it is haha. So is it core stability, what I need?
