How much does the average Taekwondo classes cost per month?

Warning!!! 40 minutes is way to short for a class. I'll bet its a children's class...... Many martial arts schools like to make the childrens classes very short. Then they can have several classes back to back to get more students. In the 1960's it was common for martial arts classes to last at least an hour or hour and a half. Many classes would last two hours or even longer.

As for prices. It is hard to compare classes when the teach so differently and have different class times and lengths. I can say this. up til 2008 I knew several Taekwondo schools were charging around $120 a month.

Every instructor sets his own prices. There is no standard that everyone uses. Some martial arts classes are free at public recreation centers.

Jeet Kune Do is a philosophy not a style. Bruce Lee did not believe in style and stated that JKD was a philosophy not a style.

...

I hope you mean 2 days a week, not month. But even so, you're still paying too much. Especially if the lessons are only 40 mins. At that length you'll be spending half the time warming up, not even giving you the chance to do enough else to learn and improve.

How much classes cost depends on a lot of factors, including where you live and the type of school. My classes are about $120/month (with discounts depending on the payment plan you opt for) for up to 4 classes a week. Classes are 1 hour or 1 hr 15 min long. I also live in a more expensive part of the country.

I think you should see what other options are available in your area.

The 2 dojo I looked into (not for TKD but they give you and idea of pricing) were a Judo/Jujutsu and Jeet Kune Do. The Judo classes were $50 a month and had 1 hour classes 3 days a week. The Jujutsu was $75 a month, same schedule as Judo. The Jeet Kune Do was $125 a month, again same schedule. Tbh I never hear anything good about TKD compared to Muay Thai, Kyokushin Karate, and Boxing. You probably should take something else. Just to clear up that other comment, I know JKD isn't a style. Most of us refer to what Bruce Lee did as JKD since we don't have anything else to call it.

Before you cry "rip off" or "mcdojang" (TKD mcdojo is called mcdojang), keep in mind that you are looking at prices for a store front business. That means the owner has to pay rent, utitlities, repairs, insurance, equipment, and maybe even wages and/or salaries, in addition to making a profit. He or she may be teaching full time, or even if it is a part-time job, the money is obviously needed. If the money was not needed by the owner, the owner would teach for free or a very low fee.

If price is an issue, go to a recreation center or keep Googling until you find someone who teaches for free at a church. Keep in mind, though that for free or a low fee, you are not going to be able to come to class whenever you want, you are going to only be able to get the instructor's attention for that set time, and MAYBE via e-mail outside of that.

All of that being said, $120 a month is average. I have seen as low as $20 a month (rec center) and as high as $225 a month (has UFC fighters there too).

Around me, $120/mo is average when you have an annual contract. $150 - $175 is common when you pay month-to-month.

Strip mall places charge more, as do franchises. Granted, they have to pay the bills, but, at $120 for 2x/month (week??) that is outrageous - especially for 40 minute classes!

Around me, some schools have 30-45 minute classes for children, and 1 hour for teens and adults, such as the taekwondo schools I train at.

But others, like my Aikido school, have 2 hour classes for adults, and 1 hour for children.

I would never go to a school that limited my time to "x number of times a week". I want the flexibility to go any time I want, especially since my work schedule changes frequently, and my kids' afterschool activities also change seasonally. My taekwondo and aikido schools allow me to go unlimited times a month, and to ALL classes offered.

I dont know it sounds average.

I've been in taekwondo for a while and starting to question the place. The instructor never teaches me anything new and I've been reading that lessons only cost up to 99$ per month. My classes cost 120$ for 2 days per month, is that a ripoff for a 40 minute lesson. Is that fair? How much does the average cost for lessons?
