How long to get good at Boxing?

80-100 hours training.

As a general rule of thumb, (my father who trained me was a golden glove heavyweight champ) a fighter who is beginning, will not be ready for a fight for around 6-9 months of training. However im sure it takes even longer to become a "master". However this is just competition.. Find a good trainer who trains you with heavy bag, excellent conditioning, speed bag, double end bag, footwork exercises etc..

Tips:

-How long it would take depends on you, your level of commitment as well as your skill to begin with. (speed, coordination, timing, rhythm, and knowledge of distancing)

-Do not underestimate footwork. I've seen plenty of boxers with very good punches, but they were never able to land them because their footwork sucked.

You can start by:

-Learning basics (stance, footwork, basic punches/combos)

Practice them by shadow boxing, and be sure to start slow to properly train your muscle memory. Remember, slow is smooth, smooth is fast. your objective is to become fluent with the punches. people think they can box, but its like a language. if you only know a few words, when you go to that country and try to speak it you'll be ineffective. You must become fluent. Let it flow naturally, focus on accuracy. speed and power will come with time..

Good luck

a very long time

My friends and I really enjoy boxing eachother and just going out and having fun. I do BJJ but my stand up quite frankly sucks. My friends arent trained in stand up either. How long would I have to train in boxing before I could get good enough to apply it to my friends and start landing more and looking more crisp?
