How does the JKD catch block work?

so the left hand absorbs the straight punch? why does it not hit your hand into your own face?

The "catch" or "glove block" comes from boxing, which heavily influenced the development of JKD.

You slap back into the punch to provide resistance. I was also taught to drive upward with the block in order to send the punch off-course and to prevent the bad habit of slapping downward onto the punch, which can lead to leaving the face open for a follow-up punch.

We generally only use it against the jab, the weakest punch.

A JKD catch block? I don't know where you heard of this or saw it but, in the art that was taught by Bruce Lee there are no passive movements each move is with the intent to hit. There are times when one hand will guide the opponents strike followed by your own strike as well as that first "guiding hand" is now set up to strike. There are really no blocks that were taught by Bruce Lee, maybe some of the wing chun stuff has some sort of block idea to it but for the most part he taught everything should be a strike. So someone teaching JKD blocking is just teaching blocking which is passive and works against you, get in the habit of learning blocks, that's all you will do. Learn to hit.

But can all body types niether levels of experience generate from Pauls video.
