How do people wear swords on their backs?

Like how do the place it into the sheath without slicing their back off? And i also read that it is disrespectful to wear it on your back is that true? And why is it disrespectful

You don't say what kind of swords you are asking about. Japanese swords/Katana are worn on the left side and drawn with the right hand. It was not worn on the back except for a very rare sword called a Choto. The Choto was 6/1/2' long. Black Belt Magazine ran an article on it in the 1960's. A little Japanese sword master did have it slung over his back. They said that he would draw the sword by slinging the Saya/scabbard off the blade. It looked like the Saya was hanging loosely by cords so that it was not held tight against his back. They did not show the master drawing the sword so it leaves some things to the imagination. Choto like the one they showed must be truly rare. That is the only picture I have ever seen of one. I own several rare and expensive books on Japanese swords and the Choto is not even mentioned in them. The BB Magazine article stated something about the Choto being to take the legs out from under an enemies horse. That was one of the main purposes of the Naginata, while was common during the Samurai era.

Hope this helps...

Have you tried drawing a sword from your back? Are your arms long enough to draw it completely? Even if they are, envision the stuff hitting the fan and you have to reach up like that, exposing your entire side and having to bring the sword down to attack, vs. the draw from the belt where your hands are in the first place that turns straight away into an attack. Plus, it is easier to defend against a person trying to take your sword from your side than your back. I could go on, but that should at least show you a few reasons why no sane person would carry a sword on his/her back.

You are thinking that the sheath is held tightly in place on the back.

If your arm is long enough, then all you do is draw it. If your arm is too short you draw the sword with one arm and using the other to pull the sheath the other direction. This assume it is not an extremely long sword in which case you would not draw or sheath it while it is on your back.

To sheath the sword, you pull the lip of the sheath over your shoulder and slip the blade in or you simply unsling the sheath and replace the sword.

TRAINING, somebody who can fight with a sword, can placs it behind the back too.
