Freestanding punching bags?

Freestanding punching bags are OK if you have nothing else. I got mine from Cash Converters for $120, problems are: Base is too wide so cannot stand close to do some things, knees cause the base (filled with 120L of water) to lift up and fall on my foot, the pad is too soft and the plastic tube in the center is surprisingly solid so every time I hit or kick it it hurts more than it's supposed to. Another option is that you can buy a punching bag stand that does not take up much room, you put barbell weights on the bottom of the stand to keep it stable, like this one:

There is also the Wavemaster free standing bag. It can be filled with water in the base to keep it steady, even for full power techniques. Then if you need to move it you can tilt it up on the edge of the base and roll it, or, if you need to move it a distance you just siphon out the water and you can pick it up.

Try Amazon, they have a variety of bag set ups.

Freestanding bags are OK to practice targets and if you are a beginner. If you hit them hard they all tip over real easily and I have had sand and water filled bases and neither makes a difference. If they tip over often enough the base will start leaking which is manageable if you have sand in the base and not so good if you filled the base with water.

If you notice the guy in the video, he is not hitting the bag real hard either.

Hanging bag is really the best option for anyone who wants a smashing punching bag workout. Heavy bag stands are a good solution if you are having ceiling problems. But if in case that's also not possible for you than still you can get a workout with a free standing bag.

This is one of the examples I am talking about

If the bag is hurting you than this is your best bet with high density foam.

wavemaster xxl is a great bag,,, runs about 240 on ebay. Bag training is some of the most important training you can do imo so get a good one, and some good gloves.

You just can't really lay into it like you can a hanging bag. Still it is good for what you need and the space you have. Use it to work skills and speed, not power.

If shadaw boxing is banned in the gym then we never return you the dojo.

I would like to buy a freestanding punching bag (cant get a hanging bag due to living arrangements). I'm not really experienced with this stuff but i was thinking of getting the 'OMNIFLEX FREE STANDING HEAVY BAG' by everlast

Does anyone have any other recommendations? or is this suitable?

hows the longevity of freestanding punching bags?

if it helps, i'm small. i'm 158 cm tall and 43 kg.
