Do you do butterfly kicks and butterfly twists in taekwondo?

Depends on your competition's skill level. If I'm facing someone of equal or greater skill, I'll never turn my back to them. If I'm facing someone of lesser skill level and they back up a lot, a butterfly kick will cut the distance very quickly.

No, I don't do those kicks. I've been in schools that teach them, but, they are useless kicks. Only teens and twentysomethings can pull them off safely; any older, and you're looking at a world of trouble. And while you might want to use them in self-defense, the chances are, there's a better technique you can use that is more effective.

These kicks are the staples of tricking and XMA. They are fun to watch, and I appreciate a talented kid who can throw them well. And when they are taught, the curriculum is designed to get kids in the school. But they have limited application, and as you get older, you can't throw them anymore, and so, your training is wasted and you'll be forced to "learn new tricks" as you get older, rather than refining and perfecting what you already know.

Most tournaments I have been to are more karate-like than WTF Taekwondo. People tend to stick with the non-jumping kicks and punches because they are easier to control.

That said, if you can pull it off effortlessly AND safely (as in safe for your opponent, not just safe for you) in class, during sparring, you should be able to do it in a tournament. Don't try to force the technique, use it if the opening presents itself.

Taekwondo suck

do muay thai and judo

Well I'm a yellow belt in tkd and I've been watching tournaments online because im going to go to a tournament soon and I've occasionally seen some people do an axe kick and if it doesn't land how they want it they keep their foot rested on their opponent's shoulder and the do a butterfly twist to hit their head and usually ko them
