Do you consider Parkour a martial art ?

The word Martial comes from Mars the God of War. Martial arts refer to systems which have their roots in war or come from the battlefield. As parkour doesn't; come from war/the battlefield, it is not a martial art in the same way that table tennis is not a martial art.

Not really.

parkour is gymnastics and nothing more then that it is not nor has it ever been a martial art

Martial-war, warlike, military. Parkour is not a martial art. Parkour is a fancy way of traversing. You do NOT want to do fancy flips ect while fighting. That doesn't work irl.

No I don't in the least. However I do have respect for those that are involved in this sport and activity and I sometimes wish I was 30-40 years younger so I could get involved in it myself; it looks challenging, requires good physical skills, and also looks fun. Even though I bounce pretty well I am not sure my 60 some year old body would handle the rigors of it so well though.

Parkour is NOT a martial art.

It is nothing more than a means of being able to get to the bus stop in a hurry, when you are going to miss the bus to collect your unemployment benefits.

No, it's not considered a martial art.

Ay, as mentioned, you can apply it to martial arts like leaping from a high place and attacking someone perhaps. But as for itself, it's not a martial art. Not even in the same category.

Parkour

the activity or sport of moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban environment, negotiating obstacles by running, jumping, and climbing.

So no, I personally do not consider it to be a martial art.

Well, I think if you create a martial art you need to have more possibilities than just being able to run away in case running away is not an option. Jumping off high things onto people sounds more like an attack than a defense and I think if you jump off things attacking people this might sooner or later end you in jail for assault. Seriously if you are high up do you really think you need to defend as I doubt someone will go to the trouble climbing up a tree to rob you unless the robber is a trained monkey or something.

No it's not really a martial art because it wasn't meant for combat but I can totally see how you can call it the art of escape. Imagine combining parkour with some real combat martial arts, that would be awesome lol!

Well people, many people say its The Art Of Escape Or The Ultimate Art Of Defense if you didn't actually know if you mixed parkour with free running there are actually moves you can use in offense such as the flash kick which is basically a back flip then kick downward, hard move to exicute, there are actually a few moves in parkour you can use in offense but parkour was originally made to get from A TO B the fastest way possible using vaults, landings, climbs and jumps but what do you think ? Parkour aka The Art Of Escape a martial arts its more of a philosophy then a fact so give your own opinions :D
