It entirely depends on the situation. If the ribs were broken during the fight they're in now there actually is a chance that it wouldn't phase their ability to fight at all as adrenaline will often drown out such pain to enable you to keep going, more so if the fight is one of desperation.
Which brings us to the second point of it isn't then what is his purpose for being in this fight. A blow to a pre-existing injury like that, if it's in a different fight, would not only most likely hurt like hell, but bring an end to it altogether. Unless it's an act of desperation in which some people can reach a very primal level of human nature.
Long story short, the situation itself would determine what their limits would be.
As someone who's broken a rib and cracked another one I'll say no. No offense to these other guys who answered your question but I don't think you've ever been in that situation. Breathing is excruciating when you break your rib. It is not a question of heart or will power. I'm sure adrenaline could take you to a certain point but once the adrenaline stops pumping and the pain really sets in I very much doubt you can continue fighting.
roger huerta an mma fighter broke his ribs and he hadda quit the fight.. personally I don't think its be possible nor do I thank you should continue even if u could man.... I would thank the breaking a rib and continueing to fight and risk even more damage would cause serious serious damage... I would stop immidiantly don't risk your life for a sport man comeon...
a broken rib makes breathing hard and if hit can damage internal structures leading to death. Two broken ribs is a medical emergency. John is correct in the pain (never broke a rib but worked in ER)
I'm writing a story and would like to know, if you a broken rib or two, is it possible to still fight? I know obviously that they won't be able to fight 100% but would it possible and what would be their limits exactly?
I just want an idea on how I can approach this.
