If you were both making contact then it wasn't sparring, but it could accurately be called mock fighting.

This happened when I was a high school junior. I signed up for girls fencing. We were practicing in the main lobby in the school. The coach, Mr. Abicca, told me and the other girls to face each other and we did. I was faced up against a girl named Tatianna. We didnt use swords just yet because it was the first day, so ww had to pretend to use swords and attack each other.

So is this considered as mock combat/sparring??
