Bears have razor-sharp claws and teeth. Fighting a bear empty handed would be like fighting a badass dude armed with weapons.
No matter how good you are at fighting, a weapon is always going to change the playing field. It's an equalizer, of sorts.
Overpowering isn't what Karate is about. A certain world renowned martial artist, and Karate grandmaster, could kill oxen with a palm strike to their skull. I'd imagine this is the sort of strategy a "Karate master" would want to go for.
Cris I used to to tae kwondo street find after no karate so bears to kick throught the throat and we had to stop its only federal restriction.
Ive seen martial artist down a beer or too it's not always a pretty sight.
