Betwen brazilian jiu jitsu and other fighting sports?

The broken nose thing is a myth and it most likely won't happen. I don't understand why people are so afraid of those injuries. They are practically non existent. No one worries about that in hockey.

Choosing an art for the purpose of self defense is bull$hit.

1. Most arts can be used for that purpose given the right training and instruction. I would argue that 1 vs 1 bjj or one of the best arts out there to have knowledge off.

2. The chances of you being in one of those situations are very slim indeed. 99% of those situations can be avoided and I there is no point in preparing for something that might never happen. In this day more people have never been in a real fight than people who have. I hate those idiots who take 6 months of martial arts then go out to a bar to eyeball people, hoping for a fight to prove themselves.

Try out the arts you have and see which one has the best training and is the most fun for you.

Funny you should say that you chose it because you dont want a broken nose, but i have broken both my nose and eye socket while rolling.

BJJ is useful on the street the problem is that you are training for competition so the practical and competitive form are few and far between. This is why i discourage competition.

I have used GJJ successfully in both street and multiple attacker fights that i tried to avoid, so anyone who tells you otherwise has no idea. The problem is that BJJ is basically just watered down competition version at many places and fails to teach the self defense format, hence the reason why the Gracie's try to distance themselves from the style because it is not the essence of the traditional format.

As for choosing a style for self defense, well any style will be able to do that if you get a quality instructor. Be warned though that training for sport is not as practical for self defense.

You probably more likely to break your nose grappling. I'm speaking from experience it happens. If you are afraid of injury, don't get involved i martial arts. If you do it long enough and seriously enough its going to happen.

Bjj is awesome.

Hi,

I wanna do a fighting sport for fun not for self defence. So at first I tougth( wrong spelled ) of bjj....but now, thinking, i decided that I wanna do something that would be usefull on the street( if I ever have to fight) . The proablem is that I don't want to get my nose broken or things like that ( this is why I chose bjj).

Near me I have lots of sports like: box , kickbox, mma, thai boxing, greco roman wresling, bjj, karate( I don't rly wanna do karate as I already have 2 years experience in it and wanna do something new), k1 ( already done it ) .
