Never underestimate range. Whoever controls the range controls the fight. It goes for unarmed styles and armed styles alike.
I owned a "three section staff" for a few years. It's my personal favorite, because if I really needed to use it in self defense. I could definitely deliver a nice strike to my attacker. As opposed to a blade that will cause a gory blood path. As far as I know, most three section staffs are the same length. I really liked the whipping motion it had. I could slap anything that steps within 8 feet of me. You're probably thinking,
"Well what happens if they are a few steps in front of you, does it become ineffective?!"
Wrong...
In that situation, you can use it like a baton.
It's very versatile.
I don't always put this much effort into answering a question, but I'm giving you a picture of me with my three section staff and I'm also going to add a YouTube video to 1 of my channels, so you can get a better understanding of it.
1.guan dao/kwan dao
2.naginata
3.dadao
4.sovnya
Which is best and why?
I personally think the guan dao is the best as it seems to be the most versatile as it is often portrayed with a spear opposite the blade, a tassle, and a hand guard/weapon catcher-thingy(circle at the bottom of the blade).but yea,I'm open to suggestions.
I ask because id like to purchase one of the above and train with it upon receiving my black belt(my school offers training in a weapon of ones choosing after they reach black belt)
