To help point you in the right direction, though, I know of a group in my area (nowhere near yours) that practices choreographed lightsaber fights for demos and they use the site meetup.com and have advertised in the activities section of craigslist. Many of their members have had some training in martial arts and/or gymnastics to varying degrees.
a year or two back there was a documentary on light saber culture in NYC. I believe one of those was group was NYU kids and they met at the Washington Square Park. I seen a small group there once near sundown, but not sure if it was that group or another random group.
I would do a search for that documentary first and then try google search for the NYU group.
this has nothing to do with martial arts try the movie section or something

I saw this group perform a star wars lightsaber show at LI-Con this year and it was awesome! So I was wondering where in New York could I learn how to use a lightsaber and perform in shows.
