Are crane kicks underutilized in mma?

They aren't underutilized. Some people are just good with certain stuff. Machida is a karate guy that has trained incorporating karate into MMA his whole career. Look at Uriah Hall and his wheel kick. Its fast enough to destroy someone and not so slow that you are giving someone your back. Its really just all about skill, talent, and a lot of training.

Yeah i like the Crane kick. I think it can be a very effective kick. Often the problem is that if the kick does not find the target and get the desired effect, it will leave you open for a take down. Sure its just like anything else it has its pros and cons but clearly the way MMA is designed it has had limited success. This does not mean the kick is ineffective, infact it can be a wonderful kick, but in the cage there are rules and positioning which changes any martial artist dynamics of fighting.

That first video was from a movie. That second video was not a crane kick, if you compare it to the first video. To me it seems to be a simple front kick. Most of the flashy techniques you see in movies and things like that don't work.

Simple reason is that they are too complicated. It's not about power. Which I thought you would get by now considering how much you have been training. If you need x amount of power to knock someone out, why is it necessary to you x + 100? If that makes any sense. There is no need to use techniques that generate more power if you can deliver enough damage with a simpler technique.

You sometimes need to use combos and things like that to break your opponents defense. But these flashy techniques have a huge downside. They leave you exposed for a certain amount of time.

Sorry, I've never heard of a crane kick either. But then, I don't know much about MMA. Can you post a video of it for a reference? I suppose that even if you did post a video, since I still don't know much about MMA... I guess I still can't answer your question. But maybe I can learn something from someone who does, and the video will provide a context. - thanks

I'm a Crane Fist practitioner...

What on earth is a "crane kick"???

Can you answer me this?

Because I have never seen a "crane kick" other than the hollywood BS everybody THINKS is a "crane kick".

I'd say they're utilized about as much as they should be. Meaning, hardly at all.
