Are Krav Maga and StrongLifts 5x5 a good mix?

you should do eskrima instead of krav maga or silat.

No it's not. That is not enough time each week put into martial arts. First off forget krav maga. Most western places are pure $hit. Unless you doing it from some branch of the Israli military it's not worth it. And I can tell you are not since it has one hour training sessions. Most places that have only one hour training sessions should be avoided. One hour is simply not enough. And krav maga is not known for being physically tough in that sense.

What should you do? Well that is up to you and the area you live in. What is available? You need something that has sparring, hard workouts and a good trainer. If you at a place like that you won't have to do strong lift training. Personally I would look into things like boxing, muay thai, mma, bjj, sambo, sanshoo and etc. But seach around in your area and see what is available, try it out a few time and get the feel.

It is perfectly fine to do a 5x5 program while doing martial arts. I lift using a 5-3-1 program every other day in addition to martial arts training. I enjoy both tremendously and find that the lifting program really helps in developing power for strikes and throws, grip strength for joint locks, etc. No problem mixing the two. By the way, 5x5 is a good program to start with. After about six months don't be afraid to play around with the program a bit based upon what your body tells you. These programs are good starting points but, much like martial arts, lifting with purpose requires you to learn, work to perfect your technique, and practice regularly while finding your own ultimate truth about what works specifically for you. Also, don't forget to do supporting lifts/exercises that build speed in your lifts. After all, with martial arts you don't just want to be strong, you also want to be able to use that power explosively.

you should probably not do Krav Maga. People here in the US tend to bend martial arts around way too much, so try and find something that is really good. Unless your instructor was a former Israeli Commando or trained under one, you won't get much progress.

Hi. I'm going to start training in Krav Maga because I really want to learn self-defense (I don't know how to defend myself and never taken martial arts in my life). I also want to do the StrongLifts 5x5 workout so I can build strength and muscle while burning fat (I'm very weak and never lifted weights before). So my question is, is this a good training routine: Train in Krav Maga 5 hours a week (1 hour Monday through Friday) and do the StrongLifts 5x5 workout 3 days a week (Monday/Wednesday/Friday), with Saturday & Sunday being my only 2 days of rest? Please and thank you.
