Any tips on how to control nerves?

First off, you have to know if you're nervous about performance anxiety or nervous about getting hurt. If you're afraid of getting hurt, it helps to spar with professionals (tell them to go easy) so that you have confidence.

If you're nervous about performance anxiety, just make sure to tell yourself beforehand that it's ok to lose. It also helps if you have a coach assure you that. Winning isn't everything and you'll have to accept losing before you can relax yourself enough to win. Goodluck.

I have taken karate for a long time and I'll tell you, if you worry about losing you will lose. Dont think about the crowd they are here to watch a fight, not a winner. And even if you lost, you will learn from your mistakes and realize that you've done something wrong. Focus on your target and stop thinking about things he will do to you. Try to block every attack from him and during that block go for the hit. Focus on his movements. Try to stay fit for the fight. Carb up the day before and get a good sleep basic stuff here. If you need more help just ask. Hope this helped!!

Best advice is to just give it your all, if you still lose, you know he was just better. Now also, have at least a few game plans, planning ahead increases your chances by over 100%. Studies show that most people who win fights, mapped a moment out in their head and once that moment arose, they used the plan and it worked. I've won fights in SECONDS using a predetermined move or plan.

Don't rely on it, but use it if the opportunity presents itself. Another tip, as a pro fighter, the guy you are fighting IS feeling the EXACT same thing, use that to your advantage. Maybe even psych him out by saying something like...

You scared? Your pupils are SO dialated *laugh*

He'll become even more nervous, just like if someone had said that to you. Just knowing he is feeling the same thing as you should calm you down.

I'm terrified of crowds I use ear plugs up to the last second then take them out. I also like to creating a pre fight ritual go there check the place out go train in the ring i get my friends to sit there and yell out stuff while I train eat my tic tacs. The first one will allways be hard you just have to suck it up and find what works for you. Sometimes abit of yoga has helped it's all up to you my advice would be to do something similar to what you do for training and maybe having words to your coach and ask if he can get a small crowd to watch you train and comment on you while your training at your gym. Don't try to pysch anyone out that's in sportsman like.

The nerves disappear when you step into the match. Trust me, done it a million times in wrestling. They are alike.

I got a mma fight coming up and im nervous, not about my opponent, im not scared of them one bit, no just about the whole situation, fighting in front of a crowd, worrying about loosing, worrying that something will go wrong, that i wont be as good on the day, this is a real chance to prove myself and i dont want my nerves to stop me performing as i should :/ any other athletes have a way to control these nerves?
